What we do here
A Dice Called Quest is a space to talk about roleplaying games where everyone is expected to accept and promote a place critical of racism, sexism, heterosexism, etc.
Not every or any post need specifically talk about these things, but I've found a major cramp on the fun of roleplaying is all this stuff intruding - so this is a space to not have that going on.
We're working with the privilege + power definition of these things, so if you don't agree with that, you shouldn't sign up here.
Expectations
Talk about games you love! Talk about things that are going on in your gaming, past, present or future!
No re-editing, please
Don't change more than minor spelling, if that. I've seen some really wack drama go down with people doing stuff like deleting their posts or drastically changing their words because they were not willing to live with what they wrote.
See the next bit of advice.
Slow your roll/do more with less posts
This is a forum, not Twitter, so think about what you really want to say. A lot of forums get clogged up with people firing posts back and forth at each other which, in the end, are just short 1-2 sentences without much substance.
Try not to post more than 3 times a day to a single thread, ok?
Likewise, if you are getting a lot of questions/replies, you can ask other people to slow down as well.
Ask questions only if you want answers
There's this weird thing people do a lot- they ask questions when they've already made up their mind about the answer. Don't do that - it's disingenuous and disrespectful. It wastes the time of folks who are actually trying to help you.
"No" words
Don't use racial or gendered slurs. Don't jokingly use the word "Raped" to refer to dominating/being dominated in a game. Don't use "fag" or other heterosexist slurs. Don't use "pussy" or "douche" as insults.
If your discussion is about gamer culture and critiquing how others are using these words, fine. But don't go using them yourself.
Where do we talk about theory?
You can talk about things that you've seen in Play, the way people behave in Gamer Culture. Theory is going to have to come from things you've seen, and experienced.
Moderation
Bans
Attacks on other members, in the form of slurs, racial, gendered, etc. will result in a ban. Clear forms of dog-whistle insults, will result in a ban.
Drastic self-editing for the sake of status games or trying to erase the things you've written will result in a ban.
Warnings
You may be asked to check your privilege, slow your roll, or take a time out for a given period of time.
This is usually going to be either a) people getting too heated in a conversation, b) privilege that someone looks like they MIGHT be able to check, c) going into circles with your statements or, d) dominating a conversation.
Violating warnings is a good way to get banned.
I've seen some forums where people do a thing that gets them a warning, wait a month, then do it again. And they do this over and over. This is a great way to get banned.
Time out
Time out is me, the moderator, requesting that you take some time away from posting. There's not going to be any code keeping you from posting, but understand it's sort of a last ditch agreement between us - violating it will get you banned. Coming back after the alloted time and proceeding to continue to act out of line will also result in a ban.
I don't understand what I did wrong/what someone else did wrong?
The place to ask those questions is to PM me and I'll let you know. Acting up IN the thread where any moderation has gone on is a quick route down that Time Out/Ban route.
Although in principle asking doesn't always have to lead to drama, I've seen a lot of times where people pretend to be ignorant about what is obviously going on, in an effort to derail and throw what amounts to tantrums online.
